Our latest interview is with US based Kee Edwards, founder of Loup Charmant
Tell us a little about the brand...
I began thinking of Loup Charmant on my honeymoon in the Algarve region of Portugal. I was thinking of what I wish I had to wear on my honeymoon and also living a carefree easy beach life on the water in Miami.
I am passionate about health and nutrition, and wanted to do a beautiful line in organic cottons. The fabrics inspired me, how and where cotton is grown and its route through the tropics and into the US. Also, how it was historically part of a woman’s trousseau for her wedding.
What are three words you would use to describe your designs?
Feminine, Airy, Beachy
What was the inspiration behind your latest collection?
Becoming a runaway from the ‘civilized’ world to a new life spent collecting shells by the ocean, swimming in the sea, meditating with the moon and painting in the afternoon.
Living by the ocean in tune with nature and self, creating art and a beautiful life.
Looking ahead, do you have anything you are really excited about for your brand?
Getting in the jewellery we’ve just made in 14 and 10k gold! Love the gold accents on a tanned arm and the sculpted chandelier earring.
Which celebrity or role model do you think reflects your brand’s style the best and why?
Women who reflect the brand’s style best are women whom I admire. They’re grounded on this plane, but deeply spiritually connected to themselves and others. They’re powerful in ways beyond the limited version of power so often lauded in our culture.
I admire the healers, the teachers and the poets. Women who are not afraid to be out of step with society.
Where is your favourite beach destination?
Love them all! But always ready to explore the next. I love an African beach; the joining of two areas I adore.
Where would you like to travel to in 2017 and why?
Greece, Lamu, and Spain.
What books do you recommend we add to our holiday reading list?
The Shadow of the Sun – Ryszard Kapuscinski
Don’t let’s go to the dogs tonight & Scribbling the Cat – Alexandra Fuller
The teachings of Don Juan – Carlos Castenada
What is your beach bag essential?
Supergoop face sunscreen. I let the rest of myself tan some but religiously apply sunscreen to my face.
What is your top beach beauty tip?
Let your hair grow all summer and let the sun do its thing. Great in a pony tail, great for salt air-waves & summer highlights. Braids are great. Just one spot of makeup on a summer face really pops. A bright lip with nothing else is super fresh. Definitely need bronzer to balance out that sunscreen!
What is your desert island essential?
Thank you for your time Kee!
