SPOTLIGHT ON THE DESIGNER
An interview with Pondichérie's very own Devon Fisher
In your words, tell us about yourself…
I grew up in Hawaii, on the island of Kauai. Travel is one of my priorities, and I find myself frequenting coastal areas often. I was always drawn to the elements of personal style, and I have a deep love of textiles, as well as the non profit sector, which is where I started my career. My husband and I recently made the move from NYC to San Francisco; it's been exciting to see Pondichérie continue to grow here on the west coast.
Tell us about Pondichérie – (how it started, when it started, why it started etc.)
I've always wanted to design chic pieces for women who travel or live by the beach. When I was growing up on Kauai there just weren't a lot of options from the fashion labels I loved. I also wanted to merge my passion for textiles with my background in the non profit world. I have always focused specifically on women's empowerment globally, and I didn't think that should change when I made the switch to fashion. Pondichérie is really the culmination of all of these passions and the desire to add something I knew was missing to resort wear
What are three words you would use to describe your brand?
Conscious, refined, effortless.
What was the inspiration behind your latest collection?
I'm always inspired by the women I want to design for, the women I want to empower through the clothes, or and the women who are empowered through the design and manufacturing process. My female artisans and weavers are so incredibly talented, I'm continually impressed with what we are able to do using handwoven techniques. And I'm always imagining what the Pondichérie woman needs out of her clothes, especially while traveling.

Looking ahead, do you have anything you are really excited about for Pondicherie?
The most exciting thing I am looking forward to is becoming a mother later this month(!). We've been using the extra fabric from the women's line to craft sustainable pieces for little ones, and I'm looking forward to expanding Petite Pondichérie.
What 3 things inspire you at the moment?
Motherhood, my home, and the total versatility of a caftan.
Where is your favourite beach destination?
The North Shore of Kauai. It's hard to choose a favorite beach destination, but nothing will ever replace home.
Where would you like to travel to in 2019 and why?
I'm looking forward to nesting more than ever; although I'm always going on last minute trips and I'm sure I'll be back to India soon to see my weaving community and work on new textiles.
What book do you recommend we add to our holiday reading list?
I love picking up Cleo Wade's Heart Talk for some day to day inspiration.
What is your beach bag essential?
Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen! Ha. Also definitely the Malika short tunic, because it's so easy to pack
What is your top beach beauty tip?
You can never go wrong with a hat, or big sunglasses, or both. Extra points for UV protection.
