Summer Holiday : Beach Beauty Essentials

Posted by on

The sun is out, and bathing suit season is (finally) upon us! You’ve dreamed of this moment for months, but - before you let your hair down (pun intended) and run wildly across the sand to take your first plunge in the cool blue water - make sure you pack a few summer beauty essentials. Whether you’re planning a getaway far away from the bustling city or just a quiet weekend at a beach nearby, make sure you throw these must-haves in your suitcase. We’ve handpicked a few of our favourites for this summer.

SPF with UVA and UVB protection – Even though you may think you’re immune from sunburning, don’t skimp on facial and body sunscreen. Your skin will thank you - both now and in the years to come! Choose from one of many light, fast-absorbing formulas that don’t clog your pores and are water-resistant. La Roche-Posay Anthelios Sunscreen Fluid is a mineral and lightly tinted fluid with SPF50. Perfect for sensitive skin.

Your hair needs protection as well, especially if it’s coloured or treated. Don’t forget to pack an oily hair spray to lock the moisture in and to avoid your hair becoming dry and brittle at the beach. We love the lightness and detangling effect of l’Oréal Elvive Solar Defense Spray

If you’re keen on tanning, it is always best to avoid make up as much as possible and load up on sunscreen and tanning lotions. If you do however crave a little coverage, as well as protection for your skin, bareMinerals have come up with Natural Sunscreen, a lightweight powder that keeps your skin looking fresh and matte, with SPF30.

If your eyelashes go blonde in the sun, you can count on Clinique’s specially formulated High Impact Waterproof Mascara. Apply it sparingly on the top lashes and give it a few seconds to dry. Avoid coating your bottom lashes to prevent smudging

After a day of soaking up the sun and splashing around in salt water or chlorine it’s absolutely essential to rehydrate both your body and your hair. Slather on Clarins After Sun Moisturizer Ultra-Hydrating to cool your skin down and ensure that your holiday tan lasts for longer. Redkens Color Extend After-Sun line provides deep moisture to sun-exposed hair. Try using the Mask if your holidays last for longer than a few days or if your hair tends to dry out quickly.

It’s pointless to spend hours blowdrying and perfectly styling your hair on a beach holiday, so your best bet is to let your hair dry naturally and aim for ‘beach hair’. To recreate one of the hottest hair trends of summer, all you need is a sea salt spray and (literally) five minutes. Just spray the product onto damp hair and pull your fingers through it, from the roots to the tips. Toni & Guy Casual Sea Salt Texturising Spray gives texture but doesn’t weigh hair down, for a tousled, sexy ‘just-off-the-beach’ effect.

If your skin doesn’t tan naturally or you don’t have the patience for gradual sunless tanners, your quick fix for a night out is MAC’s Skinsheen Leg Spray, for a sheer and bronzed effect.

Summer is all about looking natural and ditching all that winter make up, so the less the better. A fresh face with a bit of mascara complements the beach babe look. YSL’s bestseller (and with good cause!) Mascara Effet Faux Cils is perfect for both natural and more dramatic looks.

If you want to add a pop of colour, bold lips looks great against tanned skin, and effortlessly chic. Corals, oranges and classic reds are this summer’s favourite shades, so take your pick. If you aren’t ready to embrace the bright orange trend just yet, Chanel’s Rouge Coco Hydrating Lip Colour in Sabre Dore has only a subtle touch of it.

If you can’t be bothered to take too many makeup products, Dior has the answer for you. Dior Cheek and Lip Glow is a light gel that comes in one shade only and adjusts to your skin tone, to emphasise what you’ve already got and add a bit of rosy pink colour. This two-in-one product works amazingly well both as a blush and as a lip balm, and gently moisturises the skin.

Last but not least, remember to throw in your favourite nail polish. Whether you opt for safer neutral shades or experiment with the bright and pastel shades of this summer (we love Maya Blue by D&G), it is an essential beauty fix to look somewhat polished and put together, even on the beach.
